今泉豊

YUTAKA IMAIZUMI

1952 :
Born in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, he began performing matsuri (festival) taiko as a child.
1965 :
While learning traditional Japanese music at the Asakusa National Theater from percussionist Sasazou Kineya, Mr. Imaizumi began performing and composing music with Sukeroku Taiko, the first professional taiko group in Japan. He also became one of the founding members of Yushima Tenjin Sukeroku Taiko Conservation Society, whose purpose was to preserve the cultural heritage of taiko.
1974 :
After graduating from university, Mr. Imaizumi became the director of Sukeroku Taiko. As a member of Kouin no Kai, he represented Tokyo at the National Theater in the first ever "Nihon no Taiko".
1976 :
Along with Shosaku Ikeda of Ishikawa Gojinjyou Taiko and Daichi Koguchi of Nagano Osuwa Taiko, Mr. Imaizumi founded the Nippon Taiko Foundation, acting as manager of the organization.
Present Day - Willing to depart from convention, Mr. Imaizumi has received wide praise for his brilliant musicianship and lively drumming. While teaching students at Mie University, Tsukuba University Special Needs Education School for the Mentally Challenged, and Aoyama Kodomo no Shiro, he serves as Board Director of the Japan Taiko Foundation since its receiving of foundation status. Mr. Imaizumi also teaches taiko to prominent entertainers, including countless enka singers and members of the Johnnys entertainment stable. With his numerous activities, he continues to enjoy performing and helping to spread the popularity of taiko.

SHINYA IWASHITA

Born in Kumamoto on the island of Kyushu, Shinya was raised in a household of Taiko-makers. At 19, he began studying the Sukeroku style under Director Yutaka Imaizumi, becoming a professional member of the group at 25.

NATSUKO MIZUOCHI

From Ibaraki prefecture, she had a great interest in Japanese traditional music from a very young age. At 15, she entered Tokiwanokuni Shimotsumahayashiren, where she began studying in order to become a professional taiko drummer. She joined Sukeroku Taiko at the age of 20 where, studying under Director Yutaka Imaizumi, she began to learn Sukeroku Taiko's demanding technique and extensive repertoire.

YO INAMI

Born in Okinawa, Yo moved to Tokyo at the age of three. He became interested in taiko as a little boy, drumming in local festivals and eventually joining the Wadaiko Club in his elementary school, where he was the groups first leader. At 14, he began studying with Sukeroku Taiko, learning the basics of their style under Assistant Instructor Yoko Yoshida. He gained further experience by performing in local festivals and competing in the Japan National Taiko Championships. In high school, he also studied Oedo Sukeroku Taiko. Currently, he performs professionally with Sukeroku Taiko, while further refining his technique and expanding his repertoire with Director Yutaka Imaizaumi.

HIKARI IMAIZUMI

The daughter of Director Yutaka Imaizumi, she has been studying taiko from the age of three. Growing up around taiko, her life has always been full of drumming, having performed in a variety of events, competitions, festivals, and on numerous stages. Currently a college student, she splits her time between her studies and performing professionally with Sukeroku Taiko.

坂田よしゑ

神奈川県横浜市生まれ。浅草育ちの父の影響で、幼少より祭り囃子に興味を覚える。その後、青森の郷土芸能・ねぶた囃子(笛・鉦・太鼓)に触れ、ほか津軽三味線を勉強する。34才の時、助六太鼓に門下生として入門。40才でプロメンバー入りし、家元・今泉豊師に師事。助六太鼓/横笛を担当。
